-ful

-ful
-ful
is a suffix forming nouns that denote amounts, as in cupful, handful, mouthful, etc. In many cases these nouns develop meanings that are remote from the word that forms the first element; for example, a handful means ‘a small number’ as well as ‘an amount that can be held in the hand’. The plurals of these words are cupfuls, handfuls, mouthfuls, etc.
